"Obey the Law" details the true criminal case of Johnny Daniello, a thug who murdered Patrolman O'Brien during a restaurant holdup in 1941. After shooting the officer, Daniello fled with his accomplices, but police investigation of physical evidence—including a stolen hat and ballistics from two guns—gradually identified the perpetrators. Daniello's eventual failure to report to his parole board led to his capture, and after confessing and implicating his accomplices, he was sentenced to execution on June 23, 1942, while his accomplices received long prison terms.
