A blackmailer named Meenin frames an innocent man for murder and threatens to have him executed unless his sister Eileen turns over evidence. When a man with many enemies named Jerry Ames is murdered, authorities hope to pin the crime on the framed man, but Meenin's plot unravels when Ames is found dead in a car on a country road, revealing Meenin's scheme and leading to his capture by police. "Death Knell" follows a volunteer firefighter named Pete who is shot by a man named Ford over a personal grudge, and as Pete lies dying, he manages to write down Ford's license plate number, which allows authorities to track down and apprehend his murderer.
