Crime Does Not Pay #113
Jake "the Bull" Van Zant, a vicious California criminal known for his bullying nature and violent robberies, attempts a bank heist in June 1942 but is caught and killed by authorities. Two convicts, Cliff Destrum and Arthur Braden, later plan an escape from prison by splitting a stolen ten-dollar bill they find, with each man agreeing to retrieve the remaining half and locate hidden jewels after their release. When Destrum escapes first and later encounters Braden outside prison, Braden betrays him by staging a truck accident that leaves Destrum apparently dead, only for Braden to discover the jewels must still be hidden somewhere in the neck of the woods, leaving the stolen treasure lost.
