Crime Does Not Pay #54
"Cursed by the Mob" by Charles Biro follows a criminal named Tony who murders a woman named Ruth Steel during a hunting trip and steals $191 from her. After Tony flees on a bus, a series of violent accidents and near-misses plague him, including a truck blocking his path and motor trouble, while police begin investigating Ruth's death with a spent Luger bullet as their only clue. The criminals plan to poison Tony to silence him, but their scheme backfires when Tony's associate Mike Dailey becomes entangled in the violence, leading to a brutal confrontation in which Mike is severely beaten by Tony in a domestic dispute with his wife Grace. Police ultimately close in on both criminals as the mob's curse continues to exact its toll.
