The issue contains two stories. "First of the Pioneers" follows Daniel Boone after the war ends, as he reunites with his friend Squire and discusses encounters with hostile forces in the mountains before setting out on a hunting expedition. "Jolly Jim Dandy" features a frontiersman character who flies through the air and encounters armed men with wagons; Jim asserts his identity as a professional performer and frontiersman, refusing to give up his rifle, while conflict erupts involving forest runners and a cabin where his identity becomes a point of contention.
