"Nitro-Glycerine" follows a truck driver transporting high-explosives who narrowly avoids disaster when his cargo begins to shift during a haul, setting the stage for danger ahead. A submarine crew prepares for a critical diving operation under the command of Lieutenant Harvey, who has recently been assigned and is eager to prove himself through dangerous testing procedures. Test pilot Jack Cornell recounts his first assignment conferring with Chief Engineer Milton Redfan about developing a new interceptor aircraft, during which Redfan reveals his attachment to the project by noting how he has watched the aircraft's development from conception through assembly.
