Johnny Dynamite, a tough one-eyed private eye, becomes entangled with Laurie Cavanaugh, a woman seeking his help to escape her abusive boyfriend. After Laurie begs Johnny to take her away, he kisses her and steals a paper containing safe-deposit box information from crime boss Cavanaugh's office, then flees to inform the syndicate boss. Twenty years later, having served his prison sentence with regret, Colin encounters a warden's encouragement to reform and later executes a plan to escape the underworld and locate his estranged family, navigating rooftops and evading gangsters including the ruthless Rudolph Hackett before finding safe harbor at McFarlane's dock.
