The issue features two main stories. "Vengeance from the Grave" involves a criminal named Cardoni who bribes a doctor into faking a death report to escape the racket, but is caught by Ellery Queen and faces exposure. "The Chain Letter Murders" depicts a criminal organization that uses chain letters to set up murders for hire—vulnerable individuals receive letters promising payment if they commit killings, then relay the letters to others, creating a network of unwitting assassins. Ellery Queen investigates and exposes the scheme, tracing the murders back to an old woman seeking revenge and her conspirators, ultimately bringing the criminals to justice.
