"Betty Hears Terrible Tidings" follows Betty as she uncovers a murderous plot involving a temple and becomes entangled with criminals and a vengeful servant, ultimately defeating them with assistance from Ted and allies who use archery and combat. "Williams, Private Investigator" by Ray Thayer depicts detective Dan Williams investigating racketeers engaged in bootlegging operations, working with a liquor dealer named Toomey to expose gang leader Chris Toomey's illegal enterprise and stop their bootleg shipments. The Sphinx, a caped vigilante, leaps through a skylight to battle criminals, evades a police trap on a rooftop, and uses a water tank and extension ladder as weapons to escape and overcome his pursuers.
