"Duel Over Berlin" features American fighters coming to the aid of unarmed transports under attack, with a pilot engaging in combat and ultimately sacrificing his plane to protect other airmen. A second story set in late 1942 follows a civilian pilot named Bungay who downs eight Japanese planes in four days, leaves performance notes on his aircraft, and is eventually lost in combat, having traded his life to save fellow pilots of the Fighting Air Force. The issue concludes with a separate narrative involving an American pilot confronting a Red flight officer and Soviet personnel, with tensions over military jurisdiction and a plea to contact American Air Force command to prevent conflict in Siberia.
