An anthology issue featuring two war stories. The first tale follows soldiers assigned to navigate a scowboat across enemy territory, with a sergeant tasking two men to handle the vessel despite their inexperience with water navigation. "Mail Call" tells of a marine who receives word from his wife that she has given him "the gate," forcing him to make a life-or-death decision when enemy forces attack his position—ultimately choosing to stay and fight rather than accept death on a "silver platter."
