Fightin' Army #20
A soldier named Gavin earns a reputation throughout his regiment for his stubbornness, particularly regarding a mule's refusal to drink water until Gavin uses unconventional methods to force-feed it, causing the mule to suffer stomach trouble. During a military campaign south of Philadelphia, American troops become trapped between enemy lines and an advancing enemy barrage; despite severe hardship and lack of sleep and food, the soldiers mount a defense and break through enemy positions. In the Philippines, Kelly and his men navigate dense jungle terrain while being pursued by Japanese forces and naval vessels; after deliberating whether to retreat, Kelly decides to attack and positions his men to set up a machine gun to ambush the enemy on the beach.
