During a World War II Pacific campaign, Marines engage enemy forces in brutal combat, sighting a Mitsubishi reconnaissance plane and coming under attack from a destroyer while aboard a patrol ship. When a commanding officer denies a sergeant's request for a commission, the sergeant must prove himself in the field by leading his platoon through intense fighting against overwhelming enemy numbers.
