The narrative includes a flashback to when Marine Lieutenant Duff Masters was flying a Corsair aircraft and encountered Japanese forces, leading to combat and the pilot's eventual parachute landing where he encounters the boy, who reveals himself to be a companion in the fight against the Japanese occupation.
