"SOS" follows Chief Kinsek and his crew aboard a U.S. destroyer as they receive a distress call from a ship under enemy attack, with Kinsek discovering that an old friend's son is aboard the stricken vessel. "Sad Samantha" depicts the rusty freighter Sad Samantha attempting to deliver ammunition to fighting ships when it comes under sustained aerial attack by enemy aircraft, with the crew forced to defend the vessel while it appears doomed in the water.
