Lieutenant Commander Joe Dawson, commanding the U.S.S. Shingle, intercepts a Japanese transport ship carrying 18,000 infantrymen and orders the engineering officer to clear the engine room except for essential personnel, planning to use electric torpedoes traveling at less than 40 knots to attack the enemy vessel. A Japanese kamikaze pilot attempts to destroy the Shingle, but Dawson and his crew manage to shoot down the plane and successfully strike their target, pulverizing the transport ship in the engagement.
