This anthology issue contains two naval action stories. "The Coral Sea Victory" depicts the Battle of the Coral Sea following Japan's December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, focusing on Ensign Barret, an aerial gunner with only six weeks of training who must prove his combat readiness during the battle. "Down Periscope" follows Hank Gibson, a tin can sailor who becomes trapped on a small island after a submarine sinks his vessel; desperate and starving, he must survive enemy-occupied territory and evade Japanese patrols to escape.
