This is an anthology issue featuring stories of notable Native American leaders of the frontier era. "Chief Victorio and the Navajo God of Blood" depicts Victorio and Apache warriors laying in ambush with a stolen sacred Navajo object called Tah-Lo, which they believe grants them power, while the Navajo seek to recover it and stop Victorio's raids. "Chief Black Hawk and His Dogs of War" chronicles Black Hawk, a Sauk fighting chief of the 1830s, who led warriors against white settlers and soldiers; the story depicts his conflict with American forces and his attempts to drive whites from Indian lands, ultimately ending with his defeat when tracked down by the U.S. military.
