"The Decision" follows Joe Burch, a soldier who returns to his hometown and attempts to start a manufacturing business with a local named Merlin Mullins, but their partnership dissolves when Joe discovers Merlin's plan to cut corners and undercut competitors. After Joe leaves town heartbroken over his failed venture and relationship with a woman named Susie, he learns from Susie's friend Harriet that his departure has devastated her, and that Susie has been waiting for him to return and build a future together. The issue concludes with Joe realizing he must return and reclaim his life and love, deciding that Susie and their potential future together are what truly matter.
