Gene Autry encounters trouble at a trading post where two men have recently arrived, leading him to investigate an abandoned mine with a hidden corral. After discovering a stolen cattle operation and learning that the rustlers plan to use a shaft connecting to a nearby ghost town, Gene confronts the criminals and must rescue Miss Ellen, a woman whose father was killed while hunting rustlers. Gene works to stop the rustlers' scheme and prevent Ellen's partner from selling out to a man named Hillman, who knows about oil on their land.
