Hoot Gibson, a rip-roaring cowboy, becomes entangled in a scheme involving outlaws and a fair trial when he encounters trouble at a ranch. After being captured and later escaping, Hoot pursues the gang across treacherous terrain including Dry Gulch Trail and San Pedro Canyon to recover a stolen map and retrieve hidden gold, aided by a woman named Nellie who appears throughout the adventure.
