An anthology of humorous stories featuring the character Humphrey. "The Despirit Derby" follows Humphrey at a county fair where he buys a seemingly worthless horse that turns out to be a champion racer. "Beating the Best at the Fair" depicts a bicycle obstacle race where competitors struggle through various challenges, with the winner receiving Gillette bicycle tires as a prize. A third story shows a young girl repeatedly enlisted by various adults to carry heavy stacks of books, eventually earning enough time to watch television by collecting books for delivery.
