White Eagle and his tribe are lured to a desolate island by the Creek Chief Dark Wing under the pretense of friendship and gifts, but Dark Wing actually plans to starve them into submission. When their sacred fire is extinguished and the sun rises, the tribe believes they have offended the sun god, blaming Dark Wing for the disaster. White Eagle and his companion Bear Claw escape the island by constructing a bull boat they learn from another tribe, and despite the dangerous rapids ahead, they plan to return and rescue the rest of their people from Dark Wing's rule.
