Indian Chief #8

The issue features a story in which Indian Chief Heavy Deer attempts to use his red blanket to stampede a buffalo herd toward enemies, but the plan backfires when the animals are startled and turn and flee. Later, a young woman named Raven Eye seeks the Chief's help regarding her desire to marry someone other than a chief, as tribal law requires—Strong Pine, her father, initially refuses but eventually sends her away dejected. The next morning, a Tlingit boat is spotted near an island, and Heavy Deer engages in an underwater battle with a massive bull, struggling against the creature's strength in a sequence of dramatic panels depicting their struggle beneath the surface.
