This issue contains multiple picture stories of Native American history. "Last Stand" depicts Tecumseh's attempt to unite tribes against American expansion, culminating in the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811, where the one-eyed prophet's warriors fought under General William Henry Harrison. "Warriors of the West" recounts Sassacus, the untamed last great chief of the Pequots, who ruled with twenty-five sagamores and encountered European colonists—Dutch, English, and French—offering trade and friendship through a moose-skin coat. "Long Bow: Blackfoot Boy" follows a young Pawnee hunter named Long Bow who uses his skills and intelligence to survive encounters with a tidal wave and a thundering herd, ultimately earning recognition among his people by killing a grey elk.
