The issue opens with "The Great Carnival Murder Mystery," in which Joe Palooka becomes embroiled in a murder investigation at a carnival after a fight breaks out. A subsequent story titled "Fight to the Finish" follows Joe in a boxing match, featuring dialogue about his prospects as a fighter and a plot involving a stolen tiara and jewels at a hotel. The narrative concludes with a dramatic confrontation in which a character named Jim arrives at a flat, discovers his wife Mary has plotted to kill the hotel manager Mrs. Corey for her jewels, and shoots Mary before fleeing to the police station in despair.
