The issue features two stories. In the main story, Joe Yank proves he's no G.I. renegade when, after recovering from a wound, he is sent back to duty and seeks a permanent assignment to avoid returning to the front lines; a soldier named Perkins receives the promotion Joe desired. A secondary story depicts Joe and other G.I.s breaking out of an enemy encirclement, with Joe demonstrating his combat valor as the troops fight their way to safety behind allied lines while an enemy soldier remarks on Joe's diversion tactics allowing the men to escape.
