"Deed a Day" features Danny helping to tidy up ropes backstage at a theater. In the main serial, Quickey chases Jones Minor through the countryside after Jones deserts him, leading to a wild pursuit involving a pond and various obstacles, culminating in Quickey being chased by bunters. A separate story depicts Salvation Vee, a pirate and adventurer who claims to have survived on the strength of a magical weed, serving with the English army in Ireland at Christmas fighting the Spaniards, and later confronting Black Eagle in a Flying Island controlled by a villain, where detective Sexton Blake engages in an aerial battle that destroys the island's power and sends it plummeting.
