A Li'l Genius story finds the young protagonist worried about his mother's troubles and decides to scare away the neighbor's dog by jumping out of bushes in a frightening manner. When his mother later mentions she got nervous seeing him made up to scare "that snippy boy who lives next door," Li'l Genius realizes his prank backfired—the dog he thought he was scaring actually belongs next door, and his antics have alarmed his aunt Martha instead, who then frightens his mother with the news.
