Life Story #22

A woman named Alice falls into a deep lethargy after discovering her lover Mr. Drake with another woman, nearly taking her own life before a knock at the door awakens her. She is rescued by a man named Van, who takes her away and convinces her to embrace a new life together, leading her to believe her past heartbreak can be forgotten. After a night of dancing and romance, Van reveals his true colors by accusing Alice of only valuing him for his money and forcing her out into the night. Alice is subsequently discovered by Jerry, a kind man who nurses her back to health in a sanatorium; as Jerry and Alice grow close, she promises to wait for him and marry him when he recovers, though her memories of Van still haunt her even as happiness seems finally within reach.
