A sailor named Ralph brings his fiancée Judith to a bridge and threatens to drop her into the water, claiming she is a barrier to their love and that he has found another woman. When Judith tries to leave him, Ralph takes her to a police precinct and accuses her of stealing, but later regrets his actions and wants to marry her anyway. Years later, after marrying and having a daughter, Ralph meets an old flame named Ellen Adaway and becomes infatuated with her, ultimately deciding to pursue Ellen instead of staying faithful to his wife. Ralph's wife discovers his affair and confronts him, but he insists on leaving with Ellen while his wife pleads with him to stay.
