"A Heart Divided" tells the story of a woman torn between two men—Tony, whom she loves but who called her "money mad," and Clark, a wealthy suitor pursuing her. After writing a farewell letter to Tony and leaving him behind, she accepts Clark's proposal and agrees to marry him for his wealth and status. However, when Clark brings home a female student to tutor and develops feelings for her, the narrator becomes jealous and calls off the wedding, realizing her true feelings lie with Tony and that she has thrown away genuine love for material gain.
