"Warned Against Her" tells of a man who falls in love with a woman named Cynthia, only to be cautioned by her husband's rival brother Tony that she is a gold-digger with a history of romantic deception. Despite the warning, the narrator pursues Cynthia and is invited to meet her family in Bayou City, where Tony attempts to expose her true nature through a newspaper announcement of an engagement. The scheme backfires when Cynthia's beauty and charm win over even the skeptical narrator, who ultimately chooses to ignore the warnings and commit to her, ending with them becoming engaged despite the doubts raised about her character.
