Love Journal #23

A Mexican girl and an American girl both fall in love with the same man and struggle with the fact that geography separates them. After the man, Don, races in a car while the American girl Link waits on shore, she attempts suicide by canoe but is rescued by Don; he then reveals his love is truly with Link and promises to meet her again next year. In a separate story titled "Tenement Girl," a young woman from the slums named Janice dreams of escaping her impoverished neighborhood and aspires to marry a lawyer, but fears she will be trapped in the cycle of tenement life like her neighbors, ultimately finding hope when she connects with a man named Frank from her neighborhood who has also worked to better himself.
