A small-town girl named Fran falls for Casey Mitchell, a reporter from the city, after her father introduces them in his office. Though Casey initially seems uninterested in Fran's small-town ways, Joe's steadying influence and genuine character win Casey over, and they begin a romance. When Casey is later reassigned and Fran struggles with the separation, she nearly gives in to another man's advances on a bridge before Casey's emotional pull proves too strong to resist. The story concludes with Casey becoming a successful band leader, and Fran watches from the audience as he dedicates his performance to her, finally reuniting them after weeks apart.
