The Masked Ranger confronts six-gun killers from the rough mesa country who are fleeing the law across the desert with a captive Indian guide; the guide's knowledge of desert survival—including water from barrel cacti—ultimately proves crucial to stopping the outlaws. In a separate story, "Mountain Man," a tough mountain man reflects on his younger days as a trail rat trying to stay out of trouble in a Pacific Northwest saloon during a blizzard.
