In "Quick on the Draw" by Clement Cood, young deputy Jack McCrae and Sheriff pursue the mysterious "Ghost Raider" and his gang, who have robbed the Wells Fargo office and killed a guard. Cornering the outlaws in Dead End Canyon, Jack devises a plan to circle around and surprise them under cover of darkness, but the clever criminals have set an ambush. After a fierce gunfight where Jack manages to wound two of the outlaws, the gang leader (the Ghost Raider) escapes into the night. The story culminates with Jack discovering a plot to frame rancher Ray Benton for murder, which he thwarts by intercepting a false telegraph message meant to reach the warden and secure Benton's execution date. In a secondary story featuring Gabby Hayes, the aging character rescues a wild bull that has gored a man, earning praise from the townspeople for his unexpected heroism.
