A woman named Jean desperately tries to forget her cowardly boyfriend Dan by embarking on a solo trip to the Andes Mountains in Bolivia, keeping herself constantly busy with activities to avoid thinking of him. When Dan unexpectedly arrives, she initially rejects him, but he eventually proposes to her. Later, while on a romantic ferry ride to Staten Island, the couple celebrates their engagement until a woman accidentally spills a drink on Jean's dress; when Jean leaves to wash it off, the woman takes her valuable ring from her purse and disappears, forcing the couple to decide whether to report the theft or move forward with their relationship despite the loss.
