The Barker story features a man who, ten years prior, picked up a young Darley and taught him criminal ways, but later abandoned him. When the Barker encounters Darley again, he discovers that Darley has obtained a valuable jungle poison from a Malay scientist—a rare toxin worth a fortune that kills without leaving marks. The Barker attempts to acquire the poison through deception and violence, leading to a confrontation where he is ultimately killed by the very poison he sought. A second story follows a woman who wins $2,000 in a radio contest but becomes entangled with criminals who use the "evil eye" hypnotic technique; the woman is found dead under mysterious circumstances, and investigators work to uncover the truth behind her death, discovering that marks of violence and hypnosis were involved in the crime.
