A second story depicts a cavalry officer court-martialed for striking a superior, who escapes from an Eastern prison and returns to the West to expose the truth. "Pay or Perish!" centers on Native American tribes negotiating with settlers over control of a vital water hole on the sun-baked plateau, with the stakes being survival versus access to their rightful resource.
