Peter Wheat and his friend Sammy Sweet must stop a fire-spitting dragon that is destroying Sammy's bakeries by devouring all the food supplies. Peter devises a plan to have bakers feed the dragon from a rooftop, then tricks the dragon into chasing him and a beetle character named Beetle to a water-filled quicksand where the dragon's flames are extinguished. The dragon, now powerless, sinks into the water, and Peter and his friends escape on horseback, relieved that the threat has been neutralized.
