Peter Wheat and Beetle travel to the frozen Snowless Valley to purchase food, but must pass through Giant Cricket Country to reach it. With help from a friendly Blue Jay, they load their sleigh with food and attempt to escape, only to be pursued by a tribe of giant crickets who view Peter Wheat as an enemy intruder in their land. The issue also includes a thrift menu planner from Sterling's Baking Company for January 1953, offering daily meal suggestions organized by week.
