Peter and Beetle journey through Snowless Valley to gather food for the Wheat Kingdom when they are suddenly attacked by a tribe of giant crickets whose territory they have crossed. Peter devises a plan to distract the pursuing crickets by rolling a large pumpkin into a snowball, which he launches at the insect army to send them chasing after it instead, allowing Peter and Beetle to escape with their food supplies intact.
