Racket Squad in Action #24
This anthology issue contains two crime stories. The first, "Racket Squad in Action," follows Tom Franklin, who organizes an all-female police crew to run an illegal lottery and charity solicitation racket, recruiting official girl solicitors and additional unregistered women to collect funds. When Tom attempts to expand the operation by proposing an equal partnership to layton (his contact), Layton agrees and provides account books detailing the criminal enterprise's profits. The second story, "Honest John," depicts a con man named Honest John Hammill who encounters a police officer at a lunch wagon diner and claims to have witnessed a fraud case at the criminal courts building; his subsequent scheme involves negotiating with Mr. Sturgis to purchase Gador stock, eventually acquiring twenty-five thousand shares before being arrested as part of the racket squad's investigation.
