A woman named Chick becomes entangled with two men—a reporter named Hal Kane and a man named Tom—after Hal claims everything she said about him was true. When Hal and Tom are arrested and the story breaks in the morning edition, Chick realizes she has lost what she truly wanted. Later, she attends a party where she meets Joe Davies, an aspiring writer, and the two form a connection as Joe invites her to meet his friends and pursue a fresh start together.
