A woman marries Jed despite initial hesitation, finding happiness with him and his family the Hansons, but later struggles when Jed's jealousy and controlling behavior—refusing to let her work and isolating her from outside associations—threatens their marriage. In a parallel story, a young woman named Susan falls in love with Russ after a chance meeting, but their engagement is tested when Russ's financial insecurity and desire to keep her dependent create tension. A third narrative follows a blonde woman through a series of romantic disappointments, including an indifferent man who leaves her puzzled, a coach who warns her away from gamblers, and ultimately a man named Steve Mitchell who courts her with flowers and invitations to lunch.
