This anthology issue contains two stories. "I Was a Lonely Wife" depicts a woman reflecting on her honeymoon with her husband Jeff, expressing hope their happiness will endure as they begin married life. "Marriage Is Not an Escape" presents a cautionary editorial essay by a marriage counselor describing several case studies of women who marry to flee difficult home circumstances—including Edna, who marries a motion picture projectionist named Bill to escape her overcrowded apartment and overbearing parents, only to find herself in an unhappy situation; and Irene, who marries Dave and moves to the big city, only to end up back in a small town when her husband's job requires it. The counselor argues that marriage should not be used as an escape from problems, citing financial strain, family conflict, and unmet expectations as recurring issues in these failed unions.
