This anthology issue contains two main stories. "Pirates Against America" recounts historical piracy along the American coast, explaining how European tribute demands prompted the young United States to build a navy, and details Commodore Edward Preble's successful mission aboard the USS Philadelphia to blockade the Barbary pirates' port of Tripoli in 1801. "Captain Crossbones" follows the adventurer as he proposes an audacious plan to Queen Elizabeth to intercept Spanish galleons carrying treasure from Manila in the Sulu Sea, requiring him to prepare supplies and recruit a passenger for the dangerous mission.
