A band of brave pioneers risks their lives to establish a colony on Alpha Centauri, determined to bring peace to Earth by creating a new world. Chief Scientist Hal Norrel and his colleague Jon Trendan debate whether to proceed with the dangerous mission despite the risks, ultimately deciding to continue as Alpha Centauri is their only viable option for sustaining life. As the colonists prepare to depart Earth, a flying saucer is sighted over the South Coast, later appearing near Chicago, prompting skepticism from observers. The escaping ship encounters the alien vessel and engages in a fierce battle, with only 54 of the original 520 colonists surviving to make their way toward safety in space.
