Sweethearts #44
Sweethearts #44 (1958) This issue contains two stories. In the first, an architect named Ralph presents preliminary sketches for a new restaurant to a woman named Verna, who becomes impressed with his modern design ideas. Ralph disappears for two days, claiming the job kept him busy, but Verna discovers his plans were actually submitted and approved without her knowledge. In the second story, a woman named Carrie questions whether her longtime boyfriend Dan is truly right for her, prompting her to reconsider their relationship. When Dan calls to break their date, Carrie accepts it as confirmation of her doubts, leading to their separation. Additionally, the issue includes a prose story titled "Charcoal Broiled Chicken," in which Mae Jannees serves charcoal broiled chicken to a young man named Jack Rosenow at a picnic, and they later develop a romantic connection after he helps with car trouble.
